Skiing on Les Monts d'Olmes
Now through the end of March
Only 20 minutes from Gite d'Art

Situated in South West France and tucked at the base of Les Mont d’Olmes in the Ariège (Midi-Pyrenees,) this unique, neat and comfortable cottage, on the outskirts of the town of Lavelanet, provides the perfect private get-away for your exclusive use. Unlike most gîte accommodations, there is nobody living on the premises to possibly interfere with your privacy. This ‘petite maison’ is ideally suited for couples, and has an extra pull out bed if needed.

With its self catering eat-in kitchen, new appliances, and spacious back garden serenity, the cottage should fit all of your vacation needs. If you also appreciate original artwork you will enjoy the contemporary pieces displayed throughout the cottage. Depending on the season you can harvest the fruits of the garden – strawberries, raspberries, figs, quince, plums, and hazelnuts.

Food and basic needs shopping is just a short walk, bicycle or car ride away at the local ‘Super U’ or 10 minutes to the patisseries and boulangeries of Lavelanet. You can enjoy drinking coffee at local cafés or sip an aperitif in the bar of your choice. Visit Lavalanet’s open air market where local produce is on colorful display, and perhaps buy fresh items for a tasty brunch or dinner. Lavelanet has its own “cave” where you can select regional or local wines for your enjoyment.

Start
In spring, summer or autumn, immerse yourself in the medieval history of the Cathar country. The Cathars, a much persecuted break-away religious sect, they occupied castles and chateaus in this part of France. Travel the route of five of their most well known sites, the chateaus of Foix, Roquefixade, Montsegur, Montaillou, and Puivert. All of these can be reached via the D.117 road which runs through Lavelanet. For those who are more interested in prehistory, the cave paintings at Niaux are well worth a visit.

There is an open air public swimming pool, soccer field, tennis and badminton in the vicinity of the cottage.
Lavelanet was once the center for textile production in France.  A visit to the town’s textile museum depicts this interesting history.
The cinema/cultural center provide movies and music. All these activities are well within walking distance.

The Tour De France runs through the area every year, and if you enjoy recreational cycling, bike hire is available. The picturesque villages and rolling countryside of this part of France are nothing short of magnificent as viewed on a bicycle!

In the winter ski season, the slopes of Mont D’Olmes are only 20 minutes away by car or local bus service.

There are so many things to do in our area of La Belle France throughout the year.
